The Mosquito Swarm is a type of hostile mob that is found in Swamp and Fire Swamp biomes in the Twilight Forest. It spawns naturally in any light level within this biome. The Mosquito Swarm appears as a large swarm of small black cubes spinning around one another much like a school of fish. This makes Mosquito Swarms a mob which is fairly difficult to spot against the dark-green texture or the dark-red texture, respectively, of the Swamp and Fire Swamp biomes that it spawns in. Mosquito Swarms produce a distinct buzzing sound resembling that of real mosquitos, which allows the player to hear them from a distance.

Mosquito Swarms spawn fairly rarely and are not very dangerous to most players, except those without much food, as the Mosquito Swarm will always give the player that it damages a 15-second Hunger effect. This makes Mosquito Swarms a potential danger if a player is running low on food, working on a food-intensive activity (e.g. fighting a Hydra or conquering a Hedge Maze) and so forth. Otherwise, they are easy to take out, as they have 6 hearts (meaning that three hits from a non-critical hitting Wooden Sword will do the job) and do not do much true damage. However, Mosquito Swarms can make damage that is taken difficult to recuperate from.

Trivia[edit]

  • Contrary to its appearance, the Mosquito Swarm is affected by gravity, and is also a mob which has a height of two blocks. However, the bottom half of the Mosquito Swarm's mesh (if it has one) goes unused, as does the majority of the top half.
