Darkwood Leaves are a type of leaves that are found in conjunction with Darkwood in Darkwood Trees. These trees are found solely within the Dark Forest biome in the Twilight Forest, as these trees make up the thick and difficult-to-destroy canopy of the Dark Forest. These trees cannot be found anywhere else due to their canopy structure and nature. One may find a Dark Tower entrance in a clearing beneath the canopy of a Dark Forest, posing another challenge to the player as to whether it is worth it to enter the underside of the Dark Forest.

In previous versions, these leaves took much longer to break than normal leaves, about as long to break as if one was punching a vanilla log by hand. This holds true for all types of tools, even Shears, which normally breaks leaves instantly. The leaves are also immune to fire spread, likely to prevent a player from burning down the entire forest easily, and will not decay like normal leaves. Only tools with very high-level enchantments and instant mining tools such as a Vajra or a Mining Laser had any noticeable speed difference when breaking Darkwood Leaves. The intention of Darkwood Leaves is that one cannot travel on top of the canopy and then selectively dig down into a Dark Forest. Instead, one must travel underneath the canopy of a Dark Forest, facing both vanilla mobs and fearsome Dark Forest mobs such as the King Spider and the Mist Wolf.

These leaves will occasionally drop a Darkwood Sapling which can be used to create more Darkwood Trees. These trees will yield Darkwood Wood, which yields Towerwood Planks (or Spruce Planks in earlier versions) when placed in a crafting grid. However, these trees will be very annoying to get rid of due to the Root blocks that they generate.

Darkwood leaves do not break faster, but still break in a 3x3x3 area when broken by a Tinkers' Construct Scythe.
