The Strongbox is a Chest-like block added by Thermal Expansion. The block acts like a chest in a way that it is able to store items inside. The primary advantage of a Strongbox over a chest is that when broken, it will retain its contents which are accessible again when the Strongbox is placed back down in the world. It provides a total of 18 slots to store items in. Aside from being able to store items, the Strongbox offers security features. It can be set to public access, owner only access or restricted access. The latter allows anyone who's on the player's COFH friends list to access the inventory. Also, items can only be pumped into and out of strongboxes when they are set to public access. Itemducts seem to be the only transport system that connects to them as well. Warning: Do not break or wrench a strong box with ME storage drive in it; doing this will make the game crash and cause the world to become corrupted in 1.6.4
Strongboxes cannot be broken with a pickaxe. To remove it, the player must use a Crescent Hammer and 'Shift+Right-click' the Strongbox.

Usage[edit]
Strongbox can be used to create the following items:Tiers Strongboxes follow Thermal Expansion's tier system. The tier of a Strongbox determines several of its properties: storage capacity, block hardness and resistance to explosions.
The Creative Strongbox can have an infinite amount of a certain item taken out of it. For obvious reasons, this Strongbox tier cannot be legitimately obtained.
The following table shows the block hardness and explosion resistance of Strongboxes per tier. For comparison, see Blocks by hardness and Blast resistance on the Minecraft Wiki.
Tier | Hardness | Blast resistance |
---|---|---|
Basic | 5 | 15 |
Hardened | 15 | 90 |
Reinforced | 20 | 120 |
Resonant | 20 | 120 |
Creative | ∞ | 1200 |
Capacity Strongboxes can be enchanted with the Holding enchantment to increase their capacity. This means that the capacity of a Strongbox depends on two things: tier and Holding enchantment level.
The following table shows how many storage slots Strongboxes have, depending on tier and Holding enchantment level.
Tier | Unenchanted | Holding I | Holding II | Holding III | Holding IV |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Basic | 18 | 27 (Chest) | 36 | 45 | 54 |
Hardened | 36 | 45 | 54 (Large Chest) | 63 | 72 |
Reinforced | 54 (Large Chest) | 63 | 72 | 80 | 88 |
Resonant | 72 | 80 | 88 | 96 | 104 |
The Creative Strongbox always has only one slot, regardless of enchantments.
