The Machinist's Workbench is a modified version of the Crafting Table that can hold up to 3 Schematics. The workbench has an internal strongbox that can hold up to 18 items. It remembers the contents of the crafting grid upon leaving the GUI making it useful for if you forgot an item. It is the first and most basic tier of Machinists' workbenches, and can be upgraded to Hardened, which can be upgraded to Reinforced, which can be upgraded to the highest tier - Resonant. They can also all be crafted separately, much like a Strongbox. The Machinist's Workbench keeps it's inventory when broken, and even when upgraded. Each upgrade provides more schematic slots, and/or a bigger internal storage.

The biggest difference between the Machinist's Workbench and a Crafting Table or Fancy Workbench is that crafting ingredients are not consumed directly from the crafting grid. Instead, recipes must first be drawn on the crafting grid by clicking on its slots with items. Crafting ingredients are then consumed from a Workbench's internal inventory upon crafting, keeping the drawn recipe intact, like with a Carpenter.
