A quick preface: The original author of Botania, Vazkii, did not put any visible numbers into his mod. Botania, however, is open source, so viewing these numbers is not difficult. That said, there will be spoilers ahead if you'd rather avoid such things.

There are four types of spreaders. Transferring mana from a flower or mana pool to a spreader is instant, meaning, the spreader's mana reserves will always be full if the flower or pool that feeds it has mana. The max mana of all spreaders (except gaia) is 1,000 mana. The gaia mana spreader can hold 6,400 mana. Lenses can further modify a Spreader's stats.

  • Mana and Pulse Mana Spreader: 160 mana per burst. The burst will start losing mana after 3 seconds at a rate of 20 mana per tick.
  • Dreamwood Mana Spreader [1]: 240 mana per burst. The burst travels 25% faster. It will lose mana after 4 seconds at a rate of 20 mana per tick.
  • Gaia Mana Spreader: 640 mana per burst. The burst is twice as fast. It will lose mana after 6 seconds at a rate of 4 mana per tick.
  • Elven Mana Spreader: fires a pink burst up to 20m without losing mana at a faster rate.

Mana Lens[edit]

So, on to the lenses. When the lenses are combined, the stats are simply multiplied together. For example, a velocity potency lens fires a mana burst that holds 150% the mana at 170% the speed, but the time before mana begins to be lost is reduced to 33% and once it starts to be lost, it does so at 400% the original rate. There is a wide assortment of Mana Lens, here are a few examples:

  • Velocity: Mana burst travels twice as fast, but holds 25% less mana. Also, it reduces the delay before mana loss to 33%, and doubles the loss rate.
  • Potency: Mana burst speed is reduced by 15%, but holds twice as much mana. Loss rate is also doubled.
  • Resistance: The amount of time before the burst begins losing mana is increased by 225%. Speed is reduced by 20%.
  • Efficiency: Interestingly, contrary to the book, this actually increases the amount of time before the burst begins to lose mana by 10%. When it does begin to lose mana, it does so at 20% the original rate.
  • Gravity: the Mana burst will slowly descend in an arch with gravity, the range is increased to compensate.
  • Bore: Each block broken reduces the mana in the burst by 24.
  • Phantom: It costs the mana burst 4 mana to pass through a block.
  • Damaging: The mana burst loses 16 mana to do 4 damage to an entity.

The following flowers are passive, which means while fueled, produce mana over a period of time.

  • A Daybloom produces one mana every 25 ticks during the day. For each adjacent daybloom, it takes 7.5 additional ticks, up to 55, or one mana every 2.75 seconds. Assuming 100% daylight, it will take a single daybloom 14.46 real life days to fill a mana pool.
  • The Nightshade produces mana at exactly the rate of a daybloom, except only at night.
  • A Hydroangeas absorbs a water block every 2 seconds. It then produces 1 mana every 2 ticks in clear weather, or every 1 tick in the rain. It comes out to an average mana production rate equivalent to 12.5 dayblooms during the day.
  • A Thermalily will absorb lava, produce as much mana as 300 dayblooms for 43.75 seconds, then sit idle for 7 minutes. It comes out to an average mana production rate equivalent to 22.65 dayblooms during the day.
  • The Endoflame produces mana 37.5 times faster than a daybloom. The fuel lasts half as long as its fuel value, in ticks. Thus, coal lasts 800 ticks, and a stick lasts 50 ticks. Coal would produce 1,200 mana in that time while a stick would produce 75 mana.(1.5 mana/tick ; 30 mana/second)

Active[edit]

Then there are active flowers. These flowers produce mana instantly when the conditions are met, but there are sometimes other conditions that would stop them producing mana. Sorry, but trying to compare these flowers to the passive flowers is not easy, since they don't produce mana over time. Many times, the mana production rate of these is limited by the spreader they're assigned to. For example, an entropinnyum produces 6,500 mana when it absorbs TNT. It could only dump 1,000 of that into a spreader immediately, which a normal mana spreader will need to send bursts to get rid of. It can only send a single burst at a time, so shorter distances are better. If the mana burst takes a half second to travel, and therefore the mana spreader sends a new burst every half second, it will take slightly more than 20 seconds for the entropinnyum to lose all its mana and be ready to accept the next TNT explosion. A gaia mana spreader sends 4 times more mana per burst, and the speed of the mana burst is doubled, so a gaia mana spreader could potentially reduce the amount of time between being able to accept TNT to about 3 seconds before lenses are applied. Adding a combined potency and velocity lens could reduce this time to about one second. In other words, it is possible that the entropinnyum, linked to a single gaia mana spreader, can produce 6,500 mana per second, or 325 mana per tick. It would take 325 thermalilies to keep up with that, but, those thermalilies would consume lava at the half rate the entropinnyum absorbs TNT, and TNT is probably a lot harder to acquire than lava.

Trying to get the numbers above with entropinnyum may result in damaging explosions, as things are not always ideal. Take suitable precautions, such as chambers made of obsidian and the entropinnyums themselves protected and outside of that chamber, as entropinnyums have a very long range (11 blocks).

  • The Entropinnyum, as mentioned above, produces 6,500 mana per explosion absorbed. It will not absorb a second explosion until it dumps all mana it currently has stored.
  • the Kekimurus produces 1,800 mana per bite of Cake. Each cake has six bites, so it produces 10,800 mana per cake. This particular flower seems catch-free in that it will always produce mana if there is cake nearby and there is room for the mana in the flower's own pool. It does have a relatively short range, however, and will only eat one slice per 4 seconds.
  • The Munchdew produces 160 mana per leaf eaten. As far as I can tell, it will only consume one leaf block per tick. The Munchdew consumes a stack and a half of leaves (96 blocks) in once cycle, before going to rest, producing a total of 15,360 mana for the maximum amount of leaves eaten.
  • The Gourmaryllis produces mana equal to the square of the number of half-shanks the food you feed it restores, times 70. The saturation the food provides is ignored. Thus, steak, which restores 4 shanks, would produce 4,480 mana. Mind you, it takes a second to processes the food for every shank it restores, so it takes 4 seconds to process steak. Any food it finds on the ground while processing another food will be consumed without producing any mana. Fortunately, the gourmaryllis has a very short range. Another thing to note: feeding the gourmaryllis foods that give a massive amount of shanks back may result in a loss of excess mana, as the maximum internal mana storage of 9000 is smaller than a food that restores 11.5 shanks will produce.
  • The Narslimmus produces 1200 * 2^size , where size is 1 , or 2 or 4 , depending on three sizes of slimes. Assuming equal slimes size distribution , average would be 8800 mana per slime. Or 6400 ? if 12000 maximum internal mana storage info is correct. (needs testing)
  • The Spectrolus produces 100 mana per wool eaten of the correct color.
  • The Rosa Arcana produces 24 mana per point of experience it absorbs from a player. It will only absorb one experience point per tick.
  • The Dandelifeon has a theoretical maximum of 36 mana per tick. 35+ mana per tick has been achieved.

As of 09.2020 and probably since 2015 commit , it generates 80 mana per 10 tick step >8 mana/tick > theoretical maximum 6 cosumed cells * 8 mana = 48 mana tick . Seem to fit 1.7.10 botania version testing in game. Might be not so for later versions. (Need someone checking/testing)(previously was 60 mana * cell age)

Functional Flowers[edit]

  • An Agricarnation consumes about 17 mana per second. Specifically, it performs one operation every 6 ticks at a cost of 5 mana (and there are 20 ticks per second).
  • The Clayconia costs 80 mana to convert Sand to Clay.
  • Each time the Fallen Kanade applies a regeneration effect to a player, it costs 120 mana.
  • The Loonium will only produce dungeon loot once every 5 seconds. When it does, it consumes 35,000 mana.
  • Similarly, the Orechid will only convert stone to ore once every 5 seconds. It consumes 17,500 mana when it does.
