The Pickaxe of Distortion is a pickaxe with some extra abilities. It is meant to be used on hard materials, such as Obsidian, Reinforced Stone or Concrete. The speed of mining is determined by the time needed to mine such blocks and therefore is much faster than normal pickaxes. However, this also affects not as hard materials in the opposite way, making mining blocks like Netherrack very long.

"By infusing a thaumium pickaxe with taint, you create a tool capable of cutting through difficult materials.

The Pickaxe of Distortion infects hard materials with taint, weakening them. The harder the material, the more effective the pickaxe is at removing it. Unfortunately, the effectes of the taint have an inverse effect when mining soft materials, rendering the pickaxe less effective than just pawing at the the block with your bare hands."
