Continued Discussion[edit]
Original discussion here.
- I don't really have answers for your questions, recently I've not been getting too much into wiki content, but just monitoring for nonconstructive edits. I'd suggest asking in the Wiki Discussion forum, where your questions will be more visible. Happy editing! --timrem (talk) 18:44, 5 July 2013 (CEST)
- Yeah. *Grr. Pout* My current firewall doesn't like the forum. I'll have to go there later. (even though now is when I have the most time) Oh, well. Do you know anyone else that I could ask until I can try the forum?
- There's the Community Portal as a central place to discuss things, but I don't think it's monitored as well as on other wikis, because of how the forum is used. There are also the admins who may have answers, I suppose. --timrem (talk) 19:44, 5 July 2013 (CEST)
- And if you're really looking for something to do, you could start going through the talk pages and deleting the old wikia comment pages (those with "/@comment-")... that's quite and undertaking though. --timrem (talk) 20:32, 11 July 2013 (CEST)
- I don't doubt it. I've been going through the pictures and adding categories, but more keep cropping up no matter how hard I try to stamp out one particular mod. I was focusing on Thaumcraft until I gave up being specific and started taking them one at a time. AQiccl135 (talk) 21:55, 11 July 2013 (CEST)
- One thing: talk pages in general shouldn't be deleted, but the wikia comment pages are an exception. --timrem (talk) 02:05, 12 July 2013 (CEST)
- "Talk pages in general" meaning Talk:member_name or talk:item_name?
- The only talk pages which need to be deleted are the ones which have something like "@comment-174.20.91.142-201301080043" in their name. Those are the lefttovers from wikia, where comments are used for discussing pages. Here at ftbwiki.org we use talk pages, so if a talk page is named properly after an article's name - it is a talk page which was created here, and it must be kept. OstPavel (talk) 15:06, 12 July 2013 (CEST)
- Oops, sorry. Can they be recovered?AQiccl135 (talk) 15:15, 12 July 2013 (CEST)

- I'm impressed. I gave up after deleting maybe 50 of the wikia comment pages; now it's the only thing I see in Recent Changes :) timrem (talk) 21:40, 16 July 2013 (CEST)
- 14+ pages of three columns each with 114 entries per column equals *drum roll* over 5000 posts to delete. And I've only finished about 700 of them. *head thuds on desk due to exhaustion* All humor aside, my work-place has been a slow no-work-place for the last six-plus weeks. Deleting these pages keeps me from falling asleep (and subsequently having a football thrown at me to wake me up) AQiccl135 (talk) 22:19, 16 July 2013 (CEST)
- Oops! Hey Timrem, I deleted the talk page for Helium-3 cell and I can't figure out how to restore it. Do I just not have the permission, or is there a convoluted method? AQiccl135 (talk) 22:59, 25 July 2013 (CEST)

Question to anyone watching[edit]
Is there a prescribed/recommended way to put a "Need Info Here" flag to a partial page? In this context, "partial page" refers to an article that I know needs something, but I don't know what. AQiccl135 (talk) 9:26, 12 July 2013 (CEST)
- {{stub}} denotes any article that could be improved with further information. If you find a page that doesn't have enough information to be complete and you don't know how to improve it, put {{stub}} at the top of the page. DigitallyApocalyptic (talk) 18:41, 12 July 2013 (CEST)
- Is there any way to specify, or do people just look for the stub clause and add what they can? AQiccl135 (talk) 20:16, 12 July 2013 (CEST)
- You could, if you had something specific that someone might not think to look into, use
{{stub|reason here}}
. This won't change the visual of the template at all, but anyone editing the page later on would be able to see your note in the code. This only works because {{stub}} doesn't use a parameter {{{1}}} anywhere, for other templates doing this could mess things up. And as an unrelated suggestion, in case you didn't know already: using http://nocache.ftbwiki.org/ is better for editing than http://www.ftbwiki.org/ because it bypasses most of the site's caches, which otherwise will sometimes deliver outdated versions of pages. --timrem (talk) 20:58, 12 July 2013 (CEST)- Thanks to all. I've noticed your question: "Ok, why didn't that last one work?" You have to use CTRL+F5 to refresh the page completely. Oh, and please have a look at Bypassing Cache thread. OstPavel (talk) 20:31, 16 July 2013 (CEST)
- Thanks. I noticed that I had to hard-refresh the page; IMO, that is too complicated. Complicated here doesn't mean it's hard, just that the extra step is unnecessary and confusing. Is it possible to remove that requirement from this site? AQiccl135 (talk) 20:27, 16 July 2013 (CEST)
- Well, if you've read the thread - yeah, it is possible to work on a special nocache version of wiki, this means the only possible problem would be your own computer caching images. OstPavel (talk) 20:31, 16 July 2013 (CEST)
- I haven't read the thread - yet - because my current firewall won't let me. I am on the nocache version of the wiki, but I haven't set up this browser yet. AQiccl135 (talk) 20:55, 16 July 2013 (CEST)

What?[edit]
What? No I don't? . ƒelinoel_ 23:34, 24 July 2013 (CEST)
Template:Ambox[edit]
I believe that for the CSS definitions to function, an admin would have to add them to MediaWiki:Common.css. Including the canned CSS in the template itself does nothing, but if you instead replace the Class attributes with the appropriate Style attributes, you should be able to make it work (the code would just be less clean than with sitewide class definitions). --timrem (talk) 23:04, 25 July 2013 (CEST)
- Thanks. did you see my last "Continued Discussion" edit? AQiccl135 (talk) 23:06, 25 July 2013 (CEST)
- I went ahead and changed the template to not require sitewide CSS. Although, it appears that {{ambox}} is meant to be a meta-template, used to create other templates, and not be used on pages directly. --timrem (talk) 23:31, 25 July 2013 (CEST)
- Ah. Oh well. I looked for 15 minutes and didn't find anything else that could just add a highlighted note. Do you have any suggestions? AQiccl135 (talk) 23:34, 25 July 2013 (CEST)

Nominations[edit]
You nominated more than one thing, the rules say one nomination per person per month. either you choose one or I will go with the first one. ƒelinoel ~ (Talk) 08:19, 12 September 2013 (CEST)
- Oh, sorry. I thought I was voting. AQiccl135 (talk) 15:36, 12 September 2013 (CEST)
- No worries, voting is where you Support something that is already nominated, Nominating is where you support something that isn't yet nominated. . ƒelinoel_ 05:51, 18 September 2013 (CEST)
Ender Chest[edit]
Perhaps you have an older cached version? But the ender chest picture is showing correctly in Template:Navbox/Minecraft. RZR0 ( Talk | Contributions) 19:41, 10 February 2014 (CET)
- I know it does. I noticed Ender Chests in the 'double redirects' page. The first redirect page claimed that all 70 pages that used the van-nav template for vanilla MC had a broken link to 'Ender Chest (Vanilla)'. None of the actual pages did, so I checked the Nav. I "corrected" the nav in the hopes that the first page would stop claiming that 70 pages had links to it. After two changes to the Nav, the redirect page still wasn't correct, so I just deleted it. (The redirect, not the Nav) AQiccl135 (talk) 19:54, 10 February 2014 (CET)
Re: Unused redirects[edit]
The Millénaire mod is mostly in French, using French characters and all that. A lot of people do not have a keyboard with a key with that accent over the e on it and so the redirect IS being used, only by people trying to search for Millenaire, because they can't type Millénaire. . ƒelinoel_ 11:11, 14 February 2014 (CET)
- Ah, sorry. I'm recreating the page with a note to others not to delete it again. AQiccl135 (talk) 15:37, 14 February 2014 (CET)
- Sorta, kinda done. The Redirect code didn't want to let the note show on the page. To make the note show, I had to make it a non-automatic redirect. I'll also add a note here: Please DON'T Delete The Millenaire Redirect! Just keep in mind that Rule 5 claims that this wiki doesn't support French (technically the language, but I'm assuming the characters too). Maybe ask some of the mods or admin what they want done with this example and the other pages from that mod. AQiccl135 (talk) 15:50, 14 February 2014 (CET)
- Or I can link to it somewhere and make it not unused. . ƒelinoel_ 17:18, 14 February 2014 (CET)
- That's what I did above, but my organized, OCD self wants to eradicate all redirects. Even if it is used, I link all the parent pages to the correct page, then delete the redirect. I expect that others do too. AQiccl135 (talk) 17:26, 14 February 2014 (CET)
- What is wrong with redirects? . ƒelinoel_ 18:17, 14 February 2014 (CET)
- They are unnecessary (present case excepted) and inefficient. Good code takes the user directly where he wants to go. Each redirect causes the server to work that much harder to dish up the data. I know that they are implemented when a page is moved so that all its parent pages don't suddenly have broken links, but that should only be a temporary fix. AQiccl135 (talk) 19:17, 14 February 2014 (CET)
- Since this wiki uses a personal server I will agree on that, except for of course things like with Millenaire where words use keys that some people might not have. I mean just look at Tour dŽtruite, I definitely am unable to type that Z. . ƒelinoel_ 19:26, 14 February 2014 (CET)

Categories[edit]
Hi there, first of all thanks a lot for fixing all those categories and other things! Just a thing about Category:Backpacks though - there is a mod named Backpacks, which the category originally belonged to. Having a category for backpacks from all mods is a good idea as well, but the two would then have the same name. How about making a "Category:Backpacks (mod)" for the items from the mod, and leaving the general backpack category as "Category:Backpacks"? --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 18:53, 21 February 2014 (CET)
- Yeah, I know, and I thought about it, but it's really not worth it. Most of the Categories are general. Since each page is supposed to be specific and unique, making specific Categories approaches unnecessary redundancy. AQiccl135 (talk) 20:14, 21 February 2014 (CET)
- I think the point was, each mod has an associated Category in which all its items/etc are included, such as Category:IndustrialCraft 2. Having a general category for all backpack-type items is fine, but we also need a separate category for all items from the mod Backpacks to keep our category tree consistent. --timrem (talk) 20:22, 21 February 2014 (CET)
- Ok AQiccl135 (talk) 20:23, 21 February 2014 (CET)
- The category for the Backpacks mod should be Backpacks, while the category for backpack items should be Backpack. ƒelinoel ~ (Talk) 06:44, 22 February 2014 (CET)
- Technically all categories should be pluralized when it makes sense. e. g. "Backpacks" instead of "Backpack", but of course not "MindCrack Packs", because the latter refers to a single thing. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 07:49, 22 February 2014 (CET)
- But... a year ago we just changed them all to singular?! . ƒelinoel_ 07:57, 22 February 2014 (CET)
- If that's the case, it was a bad move. Categories are a collection of pages, and the category title indicates this plurality of articles. All other wikis I've seen, including the Big One, use pluralized categories for sets of articles with a common theme. --timrem (talk) 08:24, 22 February 2014 (CET)
- It was a community decision and we are separate from those entities. . ƒelinoel_ 08:29, 22 February 2014 (CET)
- A year ago, was that while still on Wikia? Checking a few categories I don't see any log entries showing that. Most of the large categories like Category:Mods and Category:Modpacks appear to be pluralized anyway. And the MediaWiki system uses plural cats as well (Category:Pages with broken file links) --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 18:27, 22 February 2014 (CET)

- I've done a few but the server can't handle the strain of the constant edits or something and I have to go to work now. ƒelinoel ~ (Talk) 20:00, 24 February 2014 (CET)
- Um... thanks, but next time you have something like this please tell me and I'll do that with User:dgelBot and AWB. And I wouldn't pluralize "Cosmetic", as that would become "Cosmetics", which is not exactly what the category is about ;) The server lag may also have been me, as I made an addition to {{NavItem}} that made the server hang for a few minutes. Sorry 'bout that. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 20:50, 24 February 2014 (CET)
- I can totally go through and fix some of these. One thing that might make things easier is if we could add something like Intellisense to the Categories and/or links code. I've seen a number of each where one already existed, but due to a spelling/capitalization/wording/punctuation difference, a second ( or third in the case of Tinkers' Construct ) instance was added. AQiccl135 (talk) 21:04, 24 February 2014 (CET)
- FYI, most mods' Nav boxes add the page to that mod's category automatically, so in cases such as this edit, adding just the nav box would have done the categorization for you (this reduces the chance of misspelling categories, too). --timrem (talk) 03:01, 25 February 2014 (CET)
